He joined Monash Obstetrics as a founding principal in 2013 and continues to consult from Clayton, bringing decades of public, private and surgical practice. His hospital affiliations include Cabrini Private Hospital, Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, Waverley Private Hospital, and Monash Medical Centre.

Education & Training

Dr Ly commenced his medical degree in 1990 and completed his internship in 1997.

In 1999, he gained a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne, followed by entry into the specialist training program in 2001. He completed his specialist training in 2007, achieving Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). This included a year abroad in Ireland as part of his clinical rotations.

Dr Ly is particularly known for:

• High-risk obstetrics & diabetes in pregnancy – managing complex pregnancies, gestational diabetes and medical comorbidities in pregnancy.
• General obstetrics f – delivering care across the full spectrum of women’s health, from antenatal to surgical care.

He is valued among patients for his caring bedside manner, taking time to ensure patients feel informed, supported and comfortable.

Professional & Practice Experience

• In 2007, Dr Ly began as a staff specialist at Monash Medical Centre and later as a Visiting Medical Officer, concurrently developing his private practice.
• Over the years, he has consulted at Bentleigh and Clayton, before consolidating at the Monash Obstetrics clinic in Clayton.
• He also serves as a medical examiner and remains involved in hospital and private surgical care across Melbourne.

Philosophy & Approach

Dr Ly believes that excellent clinical care must be accompanied by compassion, communication and patient partnership. He takes a patient-centered approach, seeking to fully explain options and empower patients in decision-making.

Outside of medicine, he has a long personal history in Australia having lived here since childhood. He holds deep respect for continuity of care, combining the strengths of a large specialist group with trusting one-to-one relationships.
